How it works

From Pour To Proof, One Tray At A Time

A preview while you pour, a checked count once the tray is still, and a saved photo when you empty it.

01

Set Up The Camera Once

A USB webcam on a gooseneck stand looks straight down at your counting tray. The count shows on the monitor you already work at.

Fit tray finds the tray in the picture and zooms to it. Rotate and mirror match any stand. TabCount AI remembers the settings for that camera.

Pour, And Watch The Preview

Every frame is counted on your own computer as the tablets land, and each tablet gets an outline.

That number is a preview. The screen shows it as “about 36”, small and grey, never as the answer.

03

Hold Still. The Checker Counts.

After half a second of stillness, a photo of the tray goes to the checker: a stronger counting model on our own computer in Ontario.

Its number replaces the preview, usually in a second or two, and every tablet is numbered 1 to 38 so you can check the tray at a glance.

The same tray after the check: 38 tablets, each outlined and numbered.

04

Empty The Tray. It Saves Itself.

When you empty a checked tray, the count saves itself with its photo, the Rx number, who and when.

It saves on its own only when the count is plainly finished: one tray, or trays that add up to the quantity you need. Anything else waits for you to press Save.

What Each Word Means

The station says exactly whose number you are looking at.

  • CheckedThe checker counted this tray. This is the count.
  • Checking…The tray is still and the checker is counting its photo.
  • about 36A preview while tablets are moving. Never the answer.
  • The checker is waking up (~25 s)The first tray after a quiet spell. Not checked yet.
  • Not checkedThe checker didn't answer. Saving asks you first.
  • Amber outlineThe checker only just counted this tablet. Look at it.
  • Amber dashed ringThe checker only just missed something here. Look at it.

Four Things TabCount AI Never Does

  • Show a preview as the count

Until the checker answers, the number is labelled a preview and drawn small.

  • Save a doubtful tray on its own

A tray with an amber spot, or one the checker didn't check, waits for you.

  • Send video

The live count runs in your browser. Only a still photo of each settled tray is checked.

  • Change a saved count

A saved count can be voided, never edited. Its photo can't be replaced.

Keyboard and scanner

Count Without Reaching For The Mouse

The station listens to the keyboard, so a hand on the tray never has to reach for the mouse.
